“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates

You will be amazed at the many lemon juice benefits to both our health and for beauty issues. Who doesn’t have lemons in their kitchens? No matter what time of year,
there are always lemons available. Which is just as well, as this citrus
fruit is a super food that is filled with Vitamin C, magnesium, iron,
manganese, , sulfur, phosphorus and silica, all good, natural organic
salts for optimal health.

Although lemons can be used for health, in the kitchen and for beauty recipes, today we are going to look at them as a super food for your health.

Not only that, but the lemon is also a powerful germicide. It is this that makes the lemon a perfect home remedy. Not just because they are readily available, but because they are so effective for cleansing the system and fighting germs that are attacking the body and making you feel ill. Most of us already know how good lemons are to help with a cold or the flu, however, although there are several recipes here for that, there are plenty of other uses for lemons as a cure for ailments and illnesses.

However, if you have gastric or duodenal ulcers, and suffer from excessive gastric acid, then do not include lemons in your diet.

Lemon Juice Benefits for General Health

1. Lemon Juice as a Liver Cleanser

The
humble lemon is an excellent liver cleanser.Ever woken up in the morning
and felt dizzy, with little spots dancing in front of your eyes? This
is your liver playing up and telling you that it needs a helping hand.
Kick starting the system and detoxifying the body. Detoxifying the body
is so important these days, considering our food, lifestyles and
polluted environment. The lemon is a great natural detox that helps
restore your energy levels.

2. Lemon Juice Benefits for Weight Loss

There
are many who start their day every morning with the juice of a lemon in
a glass of natural, mineral water. Why? Well, it isn’t just to aid
digestion, but because the citric juices help cleanse the liver, as a
by-product of this, it helps one to lose weight! Now isn’t that a
good surprise? Some people take the juice in hot water, others with
cold. I have never noticed the difference in the way it works, but I
leave it up to you as to which you prefer.

I do have to say that
taking lemon juice first thing in the morning does make me feel better,
and in addition I use the few drops left after juicing and put it on my
skin.

Lemon Juice Benefits for Various Home Remedies

3. A Home Remedy for Lung Disease using Lemon Juice

If
you have COPD and other lung problems, lemons can be an excellent remedy to help with breathing problems. However,
make sure that you have a lot of lemons on hand as you will be using
between 6-8 of them a day.

Boil the lemons slowly on top of the stove
until they begin to soften. Remove them from the water and when cool
enough to handle, squeeze all the juice out of them. Add enough sugar or
honey to the juice to make it drinkable, and add twice as much water as
there is pulp and juice. Keep in your fridge and make a drink of it 3
times a day. It will last you about 3 days.

Lemons have a number of health benefits

4. A Home Remedy for Rheumatism using Lemon Juice

Another
benefit of using lemons is that if you have rheumatism, the symptoms will be greatly
reduced if you take the juice of half a lemon in 4 oz of water twice a
day. Mornings and evenings are best. It helps neutralize the acidity in
your blood, thereby creating an alkaline blood and preventing illnesses,
including arthritis and rheumatism.

5. Lemon Juice for Curing Indigestion

Indigestion
can be helped by preserving the fruit. Take 500 g fresh lemons and
place in a large earthenware container. Add 250 g salt and leave the
container in the sun to dry until the peels become wrinkled and soft
with the juices finally escaping from the fruit. Eat these with your
meals to relieve indigestion.

6. Lemon Juice Benefits for Motion Sickness

Whether
you are a passenger driving along a windy road, fishing in a tiny boat
bobbing on top of rough waters, or a guest aboard an ocean cruise liner,
lemons are a boon for those who suffer from motion sickness. They will
soon settle a queasy stomach. Even if you are just feeling ‘off color’
where you don’t feel like eating anything, are lethargic and generally
unwell, without knowing why, a little lemon in some water, with a little
bit of ginger, can soon put you back on the road to recovery.

7. Lemon Juice Benefits for Contagious Diseases

There
is a time in your life when you go over to visit friends or family and
find out at the last minute that someone in the household possibly has a
contagious illness. Don’t panic! Crack out the lemons instead. Gargle
equal parts of lemon juice and water and drink a glass of lemon juice,
honey and water regularly.

8. Lemon Juice Benefits for Headaches

Headaches
brought on by nerves can be helped by making a strong cup of black tea
and placing 3 slices of lemon into the cup along with the tea bag, and
then filling up the cup with hot water. This allows the essential oils
to be released better than just placing the slices into the cup, after
the tea has been made.

If you have a headache accompanied by nausea, make a small cup of strong black coffee and add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to this.

9. Lemon Juice and Rhubarb for Constipation

If
you have a rhubarb plant at home this is a delicious and effect way of
cleaning out your bowels. Chop up 3 rhubarb stalks, remove the leaves
which are toxic), and mix with 1 cup of apple juice, 1/4 peeled lemon
and 1 teaspoon of honey. Place all the ingredients into a food processor
and blitz until smooth.  Take first thing in the morning.

10. Lemon Juice Benefits for Chilblains, Corns and Warts

Chilblains
hurt, there is no doubt about that, and they should be caught early as
if not, you will really end up suffering in the winter. Luckily lemons
can help with chilblains. Slice the fruit in half, sprinkle the cut side
with a little salt and rub onto the affected area, making sure that the
chilblains are unbroken.

If your hands are just chapped, then
rub equal amounts of lemon juice and glycerine (available from drug
stores/pharmacies) into the affected area at night.

Corns affect
the feet, usually from shoes rubbing against the skin. By dabbing the
area repeatedly with undiluted lemon juice the corns will eventually go.
Warts can be treated in the same way.

11. Lemon Juice Benefits for Bee Stings

The
bee sting needs to be neutralized by an acid. Lemons, being a weak acid
will help to bring relief, although I find that when I do get stung,
which is often as a beekeeper, vinegar works faster because it is a
stronger acid.

Lemon, honey and ginger is a good home remedy for colds and flu

12. Lemon Juice Benefits for Colds and Flu

Most of us know that
lemon juice can be taken in a glass of water with either honey and/or
ginger to ward off a cold. If you add a pinch of cinnamon in there so
much the better!

  • Lemon is a germicide
  • honey is an antiseptic
  • ginger has anti-bacterial properties
  • cinnamon has anti-fungal properties

If
you take this recipe several times a day when you feel a cold coming
on, you will definitely be able to either knock it on the head, or if
you do come down with the flu, you will have a far less case of it.

Home Remedy Lemon Recipe for Colds and Flu

1 lemon, juiced
1 x 4 oz glass natural mineral water
1 – 2 teaspoons organic honey, Manuka honey is best
1/4 teaspoon dried ginger, or a small thumbnail of fresh ginger, finely grated
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Boil
the water. Add the lemon juice, honey and spices. Stir.  Have a hot
shower or bath immediately afterwards, go to bed and pile on the
blankets. Drink your hot lemon drink The ginger and the lemon will cause
you to sweat it out, which will help remove the toxins from your
system. The lemon juice also acts as an alkalizer to the acidity in your
bloodstream, which then makes it an unfavorable environment for germs
to exist.

Home Remedy Lemon Recipe for Colds and Flu (2)

This
second recipe using lemons for keeping a cold away uses flax seed.
Flax seed can be found at your local health stores and is full of
antioxidants.

4 tablespoons flax seed
1 quart boiling water
3 lemons, juiced
1-2 teaspoons honey

Mix the whole lot together, and take in the same way with a bath or shower, as above.

Homemade Lemon Cough Syrup

1 lemon, juiced
Same amount of glycerine

Mix the two together and for an adult does take 1 teaspoonful every 20 minutes until the cough dies down.

13. Lemon Juice Benefits for Fevers

If you are coming down with a fever, you can use the following recipe. Using lemons will help break the fever, along with cream of tartar.

2 lemons, juiced
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 quart water

Mix
up and sip freely during your fever bout. If you have a feverish child,
place them in a tepid bath (not too cold, and not too hot), and add the
juice of several lemons to the bath water. This will also help bring
down the fever.

14. Lemon Juice Benefits for Hoarseness

No
one enjoys being hoarse, but it can happen, and not always when you get
a cold. Take a lemon and placing it a moderate oven bake it for 20
minutes. Remove it from the oven, slice open the top of one end and
scoop out the contents, mix with a little drizzled honey and eat.

 Lemon Juice Benefits for Children

15. Lemon Juice for Croup

Giving
children lemon juice is safe, as long as you don’t administer too often
as you don’t want the acid to strip the enamel of new teeth, or the
sugar added to the lemon juice to rot them. However, when it is
necessary, and in small doses, it is fine.

Treating croup
naturally using lemons is useful to know. For older children give them a
glass of water with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice added and get them to
use it as a gargle. If you want older children to take it internally,
they can do so taking 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. For younger children,
1 teaspoonful ever 1 – 2 hours.

16. Lemon Juice Benefits for Wounds and Bleeding

Finally,
for a cut that is bleeding, take some lemon juice and soak a clean
piece of linen bandage in this, or a puff of cotton wool. Apply it
directly onto the wound and the bleeding will stop. Because lemon has
antiseptic qualities, it will aid in killing any microbes in the wound.
I always add to the wound itself. The wound heals quicker and cleans
out any impurities. It is my one standby in the pantry for scratches and
open wounds.

 Lemon Seed Health Benefits

1. Lemon Seeds for Blurred Vision

It
is not just the lemon juice that is useful for various natural cures, but the
seeds also have healing properties. If you suffer from blurred vision
crush 1/2 oz. (15g) of lemon seeds and grind them up into a powder with a pestle
and mortar. Dissolve 3 g of seed powder in water each time, once a day.
Use for 5 consecutive days and your vision will start to improve.

2. Lemon Seeds for Fatigue and Body Pain

Lemon
seeds are good home remedy for stimulating energy and to relieve pain. If you have a
tired and aching body due to intense fatigue, then crush lemon seeds
into a powder and dissolve 1/10th oz. ( 3g) of seed powder into a little wine.  Drink
at bedtime to relieve the body pain.
